The woods are starting to come alive in color! It’s amazing to be able to take a break from class, especially around midterms to be able to jaunt through the woods with the rest of class. I feel as if there is often no time to get away from everything. This is my only reprieve. We heard so many birds today, and once again I was still struggling to keep up with the class. I think I might start to take my own jaunts in the woods. It was something I loved to do before I left Wright State for my leave of absence.

One of my favorite parts of the woods still has to be the area around the cemetery. It has a nice open field where sometimes you can see deer grazing. I also have come to love and loath the riverbeds. They’re very interesting, but oh my goodness, the hills are a lot to deal with. At least I don’t have to carry my 30-pound backpack through the woods with me. I do plan to bring a bottle of water next time, however. The weather was very hot for October, and I shed my hoodie very quickly on this trip.

One of my favorite finds on this trip was the Puffball mushrooms! They’re so cute, and edible too! I’ve attached a picture of them, specifically one with my friend’s hand showing just how big they are. If I had my own car and brought a bag for it, I would have grabbed one for my mother. She loves puffball mushrooms so much! They’re really good fried with some soy sauce.

Another thing I noticed on this trip is how much part of the campus woods looks like the 74th Hunger Games Arena. It’s such a silly comparison to make, but considering that Susan Collins just announced that she’s writing ANOTHER Hunger Games novel, I can’t help but make comparisons to my favorite book series!
